Are IVF Babies Healthy Physically and Mentally?

                    Are IVF Babies Healthy?

It is unreal to say that IVF babies are unhealthy and are at higher risk of developing congenital anomalies.

Basic difference between IVF babies and normal babies is the way in which they are conceived.

In natural pregnancy, embryo is formed in fallopian tube after fertilization and then it comes in uterus ,implants there and grows further.

In IVF pregnancy, embryo is made outside our body after 4-5 days of development in lab and then it is transferred into the uterus.

After implantation further development of embryo and fetus is exactly the same as in natural pregnancy.

Risk of congenital birth defects is 2-3 % worldwide in IVF which is  same as in naturally conceived babies.

IVF babies have also been linked to have more chances of down syndrome, or trisomies and mentally challenged babies but it is due to advanced maternal age or either parents having family history of genetic diseases, Moreover, IVF serves as a boon to these couples if done with Pre-implantation diagnosis.IVF babies can have little higher chances of macrosomia and such babies can have cardiac problems or hypertension later in life,But this risk has been found to be associated in frozen transfer cycles, more so in hormone replacement therapy cycles.

Therefore ,to summarise it can be said that IVF babies are healthy and are as normal physically , mentally to the naturally conceived ones. The process of conception is not related to any risk to the wellbeing of the child .
